A minor update of the server monitor has been released.

This release fixes a bug in the log display. In the previous version it ordered the entries by the formatted date & time, rather than using the raw data, which resulted in a wrong list of log entries.

No database changes have been made, the only 2 updated files are “log.php”, and “tpl/log.tpl.html”.

Thanks to everyone for using server monitor. Bug reports and feature requests are most welcome.

It comes with a web based user interface where you can add and remove servers from the MySQL database,
and you can manage users for each server with a mobile number and email address.

If logging is enabled in the config file, it will log any connection errors, emails and text messages sent.
The latest log records will be displayed on your web interface.
The monitor.php can be added as a cronjob which will keep the server status up to date.

Vorige week vond ik het tijd, ik ging een tweede Postbank rekening openen. Via internet ging dat heel soepel, binnen 5 minuten was de aanvraag verstuurd. Het zou een paar werkdagen duren voordat ie actief werd. Toen ik gister op Mijn.postbank.nl inlogde zag ik tot mijn verbazing opeens de tweede rekening. Ik had net m’n salaris ontvangen dus ik nam gelijk de proef op de som: mijn salaris stond binnen enkele seconden op de nieuwe rekening. Vervolgens moest ik nog wat geld overmaken naar een andere rekening. Nadat ik op “Verzenden” had geklikt ging het mis. “Geweigerd. Deze rekening is geblokkeerd”. Mijn nieuwe rekening was geblokkeerd volgens de computer. Hoe kan dat nou? Ik had daarnet nog geld ernaar overgemaakt. Toch maar even de Postbank bellen. Ik was wel erg benieuwd waarom het niet werkte: al mijn geld stond er nu op. De klantenservice hoefde niet lang na te denken, het bleek een bekend probleem te zijn. Hier gaat ie: Als je een nieuwe rekening opent kun je wel geld erop zetten maar niet van afhalen totdat je het contract, dat je thuis gestuurd krijgt, ondertekent en terugstuurt! Of mijn betaling nog ongedaan gemaakt kon worden. Nee helaas, het spijt ons. Kortom, dag geld, tot volgende week!

Opzich kan ik best in deze regeling komen, alleen maak dat gewoon even duidelijk! Zet het erbij als iemand z’n geld wil overmaken naar zo’n rekening want zo vraag je natuurlijk om problemen. Niet alleen moet ik de komende week nog eten, T-Mobile heeft ook al laten weten dat ze deze week langs komen. Tja, daar zit je dan. Goed bezig Postbank!

Ik heb geloof ik al kort gezegd hoe de dag skien met Jason was, want dat was gewoon lachen. Maja, die avond, het was ongeveer 5 uur en Jason en ik gingen richting mijn nieuwe tijdelijke huis.

7202 Fitzsimmons North, dat is waar ik moest zijn dacht ik. Toen ik in Whistler was had ik nog snel even opgezocht in mn mail waar ik precies moest zijn en ik dacht echt dat ik las dat het 7202 was. Jason en ik gingen op pad. Jeuj, daar was het dat, 7202. Het was nogal verdacht. Donker, vreemd en voelde raar. Maar goed, daar moesten we wezen dus gingen we met tassen en al naar de deur toe en klopte aan..Niemand deed open. Jason probeerde de deur, en de deur bleek open te zijn. Dus wij al zeulend met mijn 2 tassen, skies etc. naar binnen toe, de keuken in en riepen zo of iemand daar was. Na 2 minuten ofzo komt een of andere gast door de deur lopen, jaar of 35 en beetje maf. Ik mij voorstellen, zijn naam bleek Craig te zijn, en toen bleek dat hij niks wist van ene Peakleaders of een cursus ofzo..

Cool. We waren zomaar iemands huis binnen gelopen, met al mijn spullen, en dan kom je erachter dat je daar helemaal niet moet zijn. Ik Charley bellen, Charley is onze course leader, en die zei dat er een foutje was gemaakt met het adres in de email. Great, we moesten naar 7252. Wij op pad.

Het vage is, dat ook al zaten we fout, we zaten nog dubbel fout ook. In de email stond 7207, niet eens 7202 de andere die naar 7207 waren geweest stonden voor een dichte deur dus het maakte in principe weinig verschil. Maar toch wel extreem..

De eerste avond was het erg stil.. Weinig mensen zeiden iets en het was duidelijk wennen, het ijs moest gebroken worden. Qua nationaliteiten, we hebben 2 hollanders, 3 ieren, 4 australiers en de rest britten. :>
Ik slaap met Marc op een kamer, een jongen uit London ook 18 jaar. De eerste dag werd er echter nogal weinig gedaan en was het echt even wakker worden en get to know eachother.

I’ve seen a number of articles comparing the currently available Firefox 1.5 with the still not available and probably not released for some time Internet Explorer 7. What’s wrong with this picture? Firefox 1.5 should be compared against the competition, not against something that may or may not be released sometime in the future.

Where are all the Firefox 1.5 versus IE 6 articles? It does no service to users to tell them how Firefox stacks up against some future offering from Microsoft. How about telling users how Firefox 1.5 stacks up against the outdated, insecure, and difficult browser they’re using today? (or if they just have to report about IE 7, then how about comparing it to the equally unreleased Firefox 2 or Firefox 3?)

I guess the browser reviewing press really don’t care about actual users who are suffering an increasingly painful and dangerous web. Microsoft announced IE 7 in February of 2005, very nearly a year ago. They claimed at the time that it would be available in the Summer of 2005 and here we are about to enter 2006 with nothing close to a finished browser from Microsoft.

Why isn’t this being reported properly? Why the preferential treatment for Microsoft and such an unwillingness to point out the obvious — that while Firefox continues to ship high-quality, secure, and usable browsers on a regular basis, Microsoft has left its user base of hundreds of millions of people helpless against a deteriorating web for nearly 5 years.

Was that almost year old announcement of IE 7 just a media strategy by Microsoft to freeze the market, and to goad the press into reporting that Microsoft’s current IE 6 browser was a thing of the past?

Well it’s not a thing of the past. There are hundreds of millions of users out there suffering with IE 6, and IE 7 is still who knows how far away from being available (and then only to a fraction of Windows users.)

In the mean time, Firefox 1.5 is available as a free, safe, and secure alternative for all Windows users today.

Who will step up and write about the real state of browsers today and what users can do to improve their web experience now.
